Great American Bash 1996

- This is a first time viewing, I'm looking foward to it as i've heard nothing but good things about Benoit/Sullivan, this PPV is also Reys WCW debut and the last PPV before nWo formed, brother.

- June 16th, Baltimore, Maryland

Tony Schiavone and Dusty Rhodes *shudders* on commentary.

Fire & Ice Vs. Steiners
Ice is Ice Train and Fire is Scott Norton. Ice throws Scott across the ring but Steiners soon clear the ring, crowd digs Steiners. Belly-To-Belly by Rick. Ice beats on Scott until Scott gets a boot in the corner then a belly-to-belly suplex, he then almost suplexes Fire on his head.  Fire catches Scott in a powerslam for 2 then a shoulder breaker followed by an armbar after earlier working over Steiners shoulder. Powerbomb and Splash to Rick gets 2. Steiners make a tag, even though they're in the wrong corner, a doomsday device style bulldog gets 2 but Scott gets 3 with a botched Frankensteiner. ** - Was alright apart from the botch at the end. Never thought a Norton match would get 2 *s from me.

US Title - Konnan (c) Vs. El Gato
- El Gato should be renamed El Gateau and what the hell is Konnan wearing??
Nothing much happens, a few takedowns by Gato. Springboard armdrag by K-Dawg, he then does a few leapfrogs but Gato kicks him. Sitout powerbomb gets Gato 2. K-Diggity locks in a leg submission and soon hits his rolling clothesline. K-Diggity-Diggity-Dawg powerbombs Gato on the outside then gets 3 with a Alabama Slam into a roll up. *1/2 Meh. (Meh is normally saved for matches at little better than *1/2)

Lord Of The Ring - DDP Vs. Marcus Bagwell
Match is for DDPs Lord Of The Ring ring that he won by winning a BattleBowl. DDP has a cigar cause he's badass, cheap heat promo by Page. DDP attacks Bagwell when his back's turned, they fight on outside where DDP's knocked into crowd. DDP pulls Bagwell off the top then kicks and chokes him. Gutwrench backbreaker and a side slam both get 2 for Page. Abdominal stretch is locked in, has anyone tapped to that since 1953?? Two atomic drops by Bagwell complete with dramatic jumps by Page. Diamond Cutter gets 3. **  Lasted to long for my liking, as do most Buff matches, but the effort was there.

Cruiserweight Title - Dean Malenko (c) Vs. Rey Misterio, jr.
- Reys WCW debut, if a kid swapped places with Rey would anyone tell the difference?
Mike Tenay joins commentary so that somebody can name the moves. Aeroplane spin armdrag by Rey, then a springboard dropkick, the one Jericho later used. Nice sequence by the pair ends with Dean slingshotting Rey over the top rope. Hammerlock scoop slam by Dean who works Reys arm by kicking it into the guardrail. Springboard dropkick by Rey. Dean dropkicks Reys arm then hits a nice suplex, man Dusty Rhodes really annoys me. Dean puts Rey in a surfboard then bridges him for 2, now he locks in arm submissions. Double underhook suplex gets 2. Springboard somersault to outside by Rey gets a big pop. Springboard hurricanrana gets 2 as does a top rope hurricanrana. Rey goes for another hurricanrana but Dean powerbombs him and uses the ropes for 3. **** Awesome, some people might not like mat/submission wrestling but I do, I used too hate it and loved the brawling style but now i'm older I appreciate technical wrestling. A fantastic debut for Rey and Dean was fantastic in WCW. I couldn't review everything as it was too fast at points.

Big Bubba (w/ Jimmy Hart) Vs. John Tenta
They fight in the aisle. Tenta throws Bubba into ring steps. Butt to the face by Tenta. Bubba pulls something from his tights and hits Tenta, this is like the complete opposite of Rey/Malenko. Powerslam by Tenta ends it. * Sucked but what did you expect. (My new rule is match under 3 mins gets no rating, i'll have to check match times as they was either short or they just didn't do much -- According to Wikipedia it went 5:26)

Falls Count Anywhere - Chris Benoit Vs. Kevin Sullivan
- Part of IV Horsemen Vs. Dungeon Of Doom. Anderson was apparently on the verge of joining the DOD or something, also Nancy Sullivan, Kevin's wife, would later marry Chris Benoit and i'm sure everybody knows how that ended, RIP Nancy.
Start in the aisle way trading chops, eye pokes etc. they both look pissed. They fight in the crowd through to the backstage area and into the toilets where Kevin slams Benoit's head in the toilet door, Schiavone: 'He's gonna pin him near the commode (Best call ever). Double foot stomp by Kevin on the bathroom floor 'There's a lady in the men's bathroom!' Toilet papers are thrown on Benoit. They trade punches back in the crowd and Benoit goes down the stairs then Kevin throws him down some more, that must've been painful. Back ringside now and Kevin throws a chair at Benoit but he is soon thrown into the crowd so Benoit gets a table, it is soon placed over the turnbuckle like a platform from which Benoit superplexes Sullivan for 3. ****1/2 Post match Benoit slaps Sullivan until Arn Anderson comes out pulls him off put then beats on Sullivan to a pop. Awesome especially for 1996, innovative for the time. This match might be thrown in with the WWF Hardcore matches of late 90s but this was the prototype for them matches.

Sting Vs. Lord Steven Regal
This matchup seems weird. Regal is whipped to outside then backdropped. Euro uppercuts by Regal. 'USA' Chant. Regal offers a handshake but Sting does a pelvis thrust. Cobra clutch then full nelson by Regal, Sting manages to get 2 off a sunset flip. Dropkick by Regal then some stiff shots after which he works Stings arm. Punches by Regal are no sold so he rakes Stings eyes. Dropkick, clotheslines by Sting and he heads up top but gets butterfly/Double underhook superplexed by Regal. Punches by Regal but Sting no sells and pummels Regal, fans dig it. Regal blocks Stinger Splash but gets back body dropped and a Scorpion Deathlock ends it. *** Regal controlled the match mainly with his funky submissions and that allowed Sting to play underdog, so his comeback garnered a pop. Regal dominating Sting may of made some wrestling fans take notice. One of 'Surfer' Stings last PPV appearances.

Ric Flair/Arn Anderson (w/ Bobby Heenan)  Vs. Mongo McMichael/Kevin Greene (w/ Macho Man)
Star jumps by AA. Schiavone says Mongo left Chicago Bears for money, Mongo doing things for money is important. 3 pt stance and Mongo takes down AA, so they do another but AA drop toeholds Mongo. NFL guys pound AA and Macho Man gets a shot in. Greene comes in and rolls around, he's psyched, Flair styles and profiles. Shoulder tackles by Greene who struts so Flair bails but Savage catches him. Mongo no sells chops then does his own and back body drops Flair. Mongo/Greene do simultaneous Figure Fours to a pop. Liz and Woman get rid of Debra and Tara. Mongo is dominated by Horsemen until he atomic drops AA who bumps into Flair, flair flop. Greene in with football tackles, powerslams etc. AA attacks Greene's knee which leads to a Ric Flair Figure Four, psychology I like that. Benoit comes down and beats on Macho Man with AA. Debra reappears with Liz and Woman carrying a briefcase that she show Mongo, it's got money and a IV Horsemen shirt in it. Kevin Greene asks Mongo for help so Mongo helps him .... lose by hitting Greene with the briefcase so Ric pins Greene and Mongo joins the Horsemen. **1/2 - Wasnt to bad considering it had 2 NFL players in  it, is important as well as now the IV Horsemen were complete. (This was a great performance by Flair/Arn in a way as they helped Mongo/Kevin through the match and the fact it didn't outright suck is a testament to them)

cant believe what Nash did.
Promo time - Eric Bischoff brings out Hall and Nash, he point blank asks them if they work with WWF which they dont, they had to say that as WWF was threatening law suits saying Scott was portraying his Razor Ramon character or something, he reveals they'll have their match Vs. WCW at Bash At The Beach but when he refuses to reveal the team Scott punches him and Nash powerbombs him through some tables. Awesome!! I think Schiavone and Rhodes sold it well aswell. I praised Nash and Rhodes in one paragraph, you'll never see that again.

WCW Championship - Giant (c) (w/ Jimmy Hart) Vs. Lex Luger
Lex checks on Bischoff on his way to ring also Lex is TV champion and 1/2 of Tag Team Champions along with Sting and Giant is in Dungeon Of Doom. Lex runs into a big boot but soon fires off punches and clotheslines Giant over the top but he lands on his feet. Punches, kicks etc. then Lex jumps on Giants back for a sleeper, Jimmy tries to interfere but Sting chases him off. This match is killing the crowd. Backbreaker by Giant then his variation of Torture Rack. Lex picks up Giant but falls over. Giant focuses on Lexs back. Dropkick, clotheslines and chop blocks by Lex gets Giants down to one knee. Giant misses a corner splash and lies across the top so Lex Torture Racks him but he falls over and a Chokeslam finishes him. ** I'm feeling generous after this good PPV.

22.5 / 45 - I recommend this PPV for Rey/Malenko, Benoit/Sullivan and Nash powerbombing Bischoff but also nothing was terribly offensive, some was boring don't get me wrong but the good far outweighs the bad. I really liked the PPV.

Starrcade 1998

- Washington DC, December 27th.

Goldberg meets his toughest opponent yet .... The Booker.

Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay on commentary.

Cruiserweight Title - Billy Kidman (c) Vs. Juventud Gurrera Vs. Rey Mysterio, jr.
The faces beat on Juvi then they fight themselves but Juvi gets cocky so they beat on him again. Double bulldog by Juvi then he chops all that moves. Juvi flips out of a german but is clotheslined by Kidman. Rey X-factors Kidman for 2. Billy and Rey are outside so Juvi springboards onto them. Awesome spot where Rey is on Kidmans shoulders and Juvi springboard hurricanranas him off, just brilliant. Kidman goes for a splash but Juvi gets his knees up things aren't to rosy for Juvi though as he is sonn hurricanraned off the apron by Rey. Billy, Juvi are ringside so Rey moonsaults onto them. Juvi Driver to Rey but Kidman stops the count. Another nice spot where Juvi throws Rey up and he hurricanranas Kidman off the top. Eddy Guerrero is ringside and tries to help Juvi win but as Juvi rolls up Kidman Rey dropkicks him which turns the roll up over and Billy pins Juvi for 3. ****1/2 Awesome match, WCW crusierweights were the best wrestlers for me in late 90s. I liked the two hurricanrana spots and there was so much going on I couldn't type it all, especially at the start. Eddy has a go at Juvi and Rey saying they cant beat a Creampuff but no rest for Kidman though as he defends title again now.

Cruiserweight Title - Billy Kidman (c) Vs. Eddy Guerrero
Inside cradle gets Billy 2. Eddy in control over the tired Kidman. Juvi tries to help Eddy but Rey stops him. Head scissors by Kidman then he dropkicks out of a flapjack. Eddy locks in an indian deathlock type move. Bulldog and sleeper by Kidman but Eddy jawbreakers him. Eddy removes his boot and hits Kidman for 2, brainbuster by Eddy then he heads up top but Kidman superplexes him. On the outside Rey hits Juvi like a whack-a-mole with Eddys boot. Step up hurricanrana by Eddy but when he goes for a powerbomb Billy faceplants him. They're both on the top, Eddy gets knocked off but Juvi crotches Kidman but when Eddy goes back up Rey knocks him down and Kidman hits Shooting Star Press for 3. **** Match was good and I enjoyed the Juvi, Rey stuff. Fair dos Kidman for being part of two **** matches in a row. (**** seems quite high for this if I watched this again it may not quite hit that mark but for now i'll keep it)

Norman Smiley Vs. Prince Iaukea
Quick 2 Iaukea then Norm gets dropkicked to outside, mainly punches etc. so far. Norm busts out the wiggle then a scoop slam gets 2. 'Boring' chant. Some nice submissions by Smiley. Iaukea goes for a suplex but Norm hits his own, double underhook delayed suplex by Norm. Iaukea punches out of a cross armbreaker. Norm dances again but is soon belly-to-bellied for 2. Norm dances again. Smiley wins via chickenwing. *1/2 Boring but i'll bump it up a notch for some of Norms nice submissions. (Norman was one of the few WCW guys I liked under rated by many)

Scott Hall cuts an in-ring promo saying 1998 was a bad year for Scott and he'll change or whatever. I'm not sure if they were going for sympathy but it didn't matter as Hall turned heel during Finger Poke Of Doom.

Ernest 'The Cat' Miller (w/ Sonny Onoo) Vs. Perry Saturn
Miller gives Saturn 5 seconds to leave, I hope he does. Miller stalls alot, good bit where he slides in but stops short of Saturn and gets  beaten on. Leg sweep by Miller. Nothing much of note happens. Saturn gets several pin attempts so Miller bails ringside then argues with ref to stall again. Saturn gets a couple suplexes, he jumps off the top but Miller kicks him. Miller fights out of another suplex and kicks Saturn. Miller brings Onoo in but that backfires and Saturn gets 3 with a DVD. *1/2 - Pretty boring, basic offence and Miller spent most time stalling, it wasn't bad from a botch perspective but it's hard to botch punch, kick etc.

Ric Flair says he'll beat Bischoff or whatever, then backstage Steiner and Bagwell badmouth Konnan.

Brian Adams/Scott Norton (w/ Vincent) Vs. Finlay/Jerry Flynn
Not much happens until Norton powerslams Finlay. Vincent cheapshots Flynn so Adams gets a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Finlay controls Adams until he gets piledrivered then Norton DDTs. Crowd is dead as Finlay is dominated for what feels like 10 mins due to Nortons borig offence, Flynn tags in but is soon powerbombed by Norton for 3. * - Boring. Vincent, Norton and Adams must've been the worst of the nWo. (Which is quite an accomplishment when you think about it)

TV Championship - Chris Jericho Vs. Konnan (c)
Jericho comwa out with Konnans TV title and cuts a promo saying he doesn't understand Konnans sayings and should pull his pants up. Dropkick to a seated Jericho by K-Diggity. Jericho heel kicks him down but then misses a crossbody. Jericho gets 2 off a suplex using a cocky pin. Jericho is in control of K-Dawg until he gets alabama slammed. Lionasult gets Jericho 2 as does a belt shot. Facebuster by K-Diggity-diggity-dawg then a Tequila Sunrise gets the submission victory. ** Was ok but they seemed to be holding something back, hearing the nWo Wolfpac theme is a plus aswell.

Ric Flair Vs. Eric Bischoff
Flair beats on Eric for a while until Eric kicks Flair in the head and he blades. Bischoff fires off some karate kicks or whatever. Multiple lowblows by Flair, I love it. Figure Four by Flair but Curt Henning runs down and gives Bischoff a foreign object that he hits Flair with for 3. * BS but it gets a * for the lowblows. Flair beat Bischoff 24hrs later on Nitro for WCWs presidency, why not just book Flair to win at Starrcade?? (.... because this was WCW)

DDP Vs. Giant
- Paul Wights last WCW PPV, as he wasn't at Souled Out 1999.
Punches and ducking by DDP to start but Giant takes over on the outside, specifically targeting DDPs arm then he juist throws him over the top rope back in the ring. Giant dominates Page for awhile then busts out the bearhug!! DDP tries a Cutter but gets powerslammed. DDP bites out of a bearhug but Show nails a sick backbreaker. Floatover DDT gets Page 2. Ref Bump!! Bret Hart comes down but hits Giant with a chair then DDP kicked him in the nuts or something. Chokeslam is countered to a Diamond Cutter and that gets Pade 3. ** Crowd digged Page which I liked, I hate dead crowds but 85% of the match was Giants offence and that was boring and Brets interference was stupid as it didn't impact the match, running in for the sake of a run in is stupid.

WCW Championship - Goldberg (c) Vs. Kevin Nash.
- I've reviewed this match for the Essential Starrcade DVD so i'll paste that here.
Both are faces, using skills gained from Columbo I think Nash is in WolfPac here as Finger Poke Of Doom was 8 days away crowd likes Nash, idiots and Goldberg signs an autograph on the way to the ring. Goldberg suplexes out of a headlock. Punch, kicks, knees and elbows from Nash, that's four of the six moves in his arsenal. Goldberg punches Nash from a UFC style mount. Nash locks in a cross armbreaker, let's take a minute to both appreciate Nashs mat submission skills and a minute to recover from seeing something as rare as an eclipse. Spear by Goldberg but Nash low blows him to avoid Jackhammer. Thrust kick by Goldberg, the move that effectively ended Bret Harts career. Disco Inferno and Bam Bam Bigelow run in but are disposed of but as Goldberg sets up for a spear Scott Hall appears and stun guns Goldberg, Jackhammer finishes it and ends the streak at 173-0 to a pop. ** I on the odd occasion rag on Nash for booking himself to end the streak but you know what at least he didn't win clean. Nothing was botched but it's hard to botch punch, punch, kick style match.

19.5 / 45 - The first two matches are great, especially the 3 way which is fantastic. The rest was very meh, the wrestling wasn't bad from a botching moves perspective it was just boring. I would recommend watching it though for the opening matches and Goldbergs streak ending, which wether you agree with it or not is a big thing in WCW's history.

WCWs next PPV was Souled Out 1999 - http://wcwppvs.blogspot.com/2012/12/souled-out-1999.html

Spring Stampede 2000

- April 16th, Chicago, Illinois

- I think it's the 1st PPV since all WCW titles were vacated, and Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson and Mark Madden are on commentary.

Tag Team Title Tournament - The Mamalukes Vs. Lex Luger/Ric Flair
Vince Russo appears and makes it 4-on-2 by putting Harris Brothers with Mamalukes. Pretty much a brawl with the heels dominating, Flair kicks out of a double big boot. The usual Flair up top but thrown off spot, Lugers tagged in but referee is distracted. Flair gets beatdown again then Mamalukes and Harris' start fighting so Lex, Ric clear the ring. Nice athleticism by Johnny The Bull when he jumps to the top rope. Luger wins via a Torture Rack to Johnny. *1/2 Just a brawl basically, so nothing of note beyond punch, kick.

Jimmy Hart Vs. Mancow
- Going by the promo video Mancow is a radiohost.
Mancow beats on Jimmy, clothesline by Hart. Superfly Plash by Jimmy but Mancow pulls the ref in the way. A bald guy who accompanied Hart grabs Mancow and press slams him over the rope. Mancow with a chairshot to Jimmys back gets 3. Post match - Kidman comes out and beats on Jimmy. UnRateable.

US Title Tournament - The Wall Vs. Scott Steiner
Corner beatdown by Scott then Wall beats Scott down in the corner . belly-To-Belly by Scott. Blatant lowblow by The Wall, how's that not a  DQ? A legdrop gets Wall 2 and he's in control until Scott hotshots him. Outside the ring a table is set up and Wall goes to chokeslam Scott through it but gets eyepoked and accidentally chokeslams the ref throught the table which is a DQ. * What the hell was that. Should of ended earlier due to the lowblow by Wall. Stupid ending to a boring match.

Ernest Miller is being interviewed when Bam Bam attacks him.

US Title Tournament - Mike Awesome Vs. Ernest 'The Cat' Miller
-Due to Bam Bams attack it's now Mike v Bam Bam.
Bam Bam attacks Awesome during his entrance. Big boot by Mike is followed with a clothesline. Outside now as Bam Bam whips Mike into the guardrail but is then backdropped over it into the crowd. Back in the ring now and Mike gets 2 off a diving clothesline, Bam Bam counters a back suplex by turning his body in mid-air then hits a diving headbutt. The Cat runs in now and kicks Bam Bam then dances until he gets clotheslined and Mike Frogsplashes Miller for 3. ** Eh? Firstly it seems like it'd be an okay match if given time to continue,  my problem is if Cat was replaced in the match by Bam Bam then why did the pin on Miller count? That's WCW folks.

Tag Team Title Tournament  - Harlem Heat 2000 (Stevie Ray & Big T) Vs. Buff Bagwell/ Shane Douglas
Stevie Ray slams Shane down. Neckbreaker by Buff but he is soon spinebustered by Big-T, he probably needs a rest now. Vader bomb by Buff gets 2. Shane beats on HH 2000 and lowblows Big-T, then finishes Stevie with a Pittsburgh Plunge, it's a variation of Samoa Joes Muscle Buster. - 0 I was gonna give it 1/2 but even that's been deducted due to the stupid ending, Stevie was being pinned whilst Big-T was stood in the ring he could've easily broken it up at least roll to ringside so you're not in the ring looking stupid.

US Title Tournament - Booker-T Vs. Sting
- Sting is in Millionaires Club and the other 7 in US tournament are in New Blood.
Hiptoss by Sting, then he ducks clotheslines and slams Booker down. Booker is whipped into ring bell, mark Madden 'Booker hit hard metal, there may be plastic on it but Booker hit metal head on' What?! Chinlock, kneedrop then another chinlock by Booker, my interest is waning but the fans are behind Sting. Axe Kick connects for 2, Spinnerooni!! Sting ducks side kick and gets a DDT. Stinger Splash he goes for a second but Booker kicks him. Suplex countered to a Scorpion Deathlock gets Sting 3. **1/2 - I enjoyed it but that may be due to the fact it ended clean and lasted longer than 3 minutes. Sting seemed into it which for 2000 Sting is saying something.

US Title Tournament - Vampiro Vs. Billy Kidman
Vampiro beats on Kidman in the corner Schiavone - ' They're going at it tooth and nail'. Hurricanrana by Kidman. Vampiro hits a powerbomb that was like Hernandez's Border Toss. Kidman gets two 2s off a slingshot legdrop and a sideslam. Chokeslam by Vampiro. Outside the ring now and as Vampiro's being put in the ring he bangs his own knee on the steps that looked ridiculous. A car pulls up backstage, it's Hogan, he was feuding with Kidman at the time, and he beats Kidman around then slams him through a table, at the second attempt, and rolls him in the ring so Vampiro gets 3. *1/2 - Might've been okay but I hate the ending so i'll deduct some points, bra. My favorite bit is Schiavone 'You can't DQ him as he didn't come out to help Vampiro' AFTER HE JUST BEAT UP KIDMAN SO VAMPIRO COULD GET 3!!!!

Hogan hunts for Bischoff and when he finds him the police appear and pull their guns at Hogan but I doubt he'd even sell bullet shots.

Hardcore Title - Norman Smiley (c) Vs. Terry Funk
It starts in the toilets, fire extinguisher by Funk who slams Norm on a catering table then throws him through a hatch. Norm starts a comeback in the kitchen, cookie sheet to the head. Smiley climbs a ladder and hangs from some pipes so Funk hits him with a chair and Smiley falls off through a table. Chairshot to Funk, they're in the ring now as Norm busts out the wiggle so Funk cracks him with a chair. Funk pulls out a ladder as Dustin Rhodes interferes and piledrives Funk on a chair, but that leads to nothing as Funk gets the win by throwing a ladder over onto Norm. *** Entertaining, I laughed a few times. When I was younger I loved hardcore matches like this, was good but was there a point in the Rhodes interference, he got fired later in the show.

US Title Tournament - Mike Awesome Vs. Scott Steiner
Amateur style takedown by Steiner. Stiff clothesline drops Mike then push ups by Scott. Slingshot shouldercharge by Awesome, I hear an ECW chant. Belly-to-belly by Scott. Awesome heads up top but Kevin Nash appears and hits him with a crutch, Steiner Recliner ends it. *1/2 Could've been okay but another screwy, stupid ending annoyed me.
US Title Tournament - Sting Vs. Vampiro
Sting no sells and beats on Vampiro whos selling is quite bad. Sting dominates on the outside but then misses a Stinger Spalsh and hits the guardrail. Miscommunication where Vampiro heads up top but Sting isn't on the right place so Vampiro has to step down, there was more miscommunication later. Back suplex and a suplex both get Vampiro 2. Vampiro does something off the top i'm not sure what though and Sting wins via Deathlock. * Vampiros selling was ridiculous and the going up top then coming back down made him look stupid.

Cruiserweight Title - Shannon Moore v Chris Candido v Lash Leroux v Juventud Gurrera v Prince Iaukea v Crowbar
- Pre-match 3 Count well 2 of them start singing, Shannon Moore and Shane Helms, Tony: 'Why are we letting this song go on so far?' Hudson:'Are we running short?' My thoughts exactly.
Big brawl to start. Candido goes to throw Juvi out but he hits the ropes. Juvi Driver to Lash. Lash suplexes Candido on the outside. Daphne hurricanrana's Crowbar by  accident then everyone takes turns jumping to the outside. David Flair interferes and fights with Shane Helms then Tammy Sytch intereferes and pulls Iaukea off the top so Candido pins him. * Clusterfunk and not an entertaining one, 2 interferences so yet another screwy finish.

WCW Tag Titles - Lex Luger/Ric Flair Vs. Buff Bagwell/Shane Douglas
- This is the final match of the Tag Team Tournament. Russo joins commentary for about his 12th screen appearance.
Lex beats on Buff then Douglas beats on Lex, just punches etc. so far. Flair chops Douglas on the outside, Wooo. All PPV they bleeped words even 'nuts' but Schiavone says Bullshit on commentary. More boring offence by Shane, I cant stand him. Flair tries his corner flip spot but fails, he does it again about 2 minutes later and makes it to the apron this time. Tag to Luger who dominates the heels. Buff Blockbusters Shane by accident but Russo pulls the ref out. Kronik debut and chokeslam Luger and Russo puts a referee shirt on and counts 3 *1/2 Yet another screwy finish with the Kronik interference and Russo making the count. Match sucked but what do you expect with Bagwell and Douglas in there.

US Title Tournament - Sting Vs. Scott Steiner
- This is the final.
Multiple dropkicks by Sting then a crossbody over the top. Press slam by Steiner, belly-to-belly by Scott who then argues with fans. Sting knocks Steiner off the top then hits a Stinger Splash, then another but hits the ref aswell not that Sting cares as he goes for a third but Vampiro rips through the ring and pulls Sting under when he reappears Schiavone says Sting is bleeding profusely from the mouth, someone get Schiavone a thesaurus. Steiner Recliner ends it. *1/2 - That may be the stupidest ending/interference of the night. Stings previous 2 matches had the only clean finishes of the PPV.

WCW World Title Match - Jeff Jarrett Vs. DDP (w/ Kimberley)
DDT by Page gets 2. Fighting in the crowd but due to the camera angle I can't see much. Back ringside now, Jarrett puts Kimberly in the way then cheap shots DDP. Superplex by Jeff then a chair sho to DDPs back. Jarretts in control then ax handles to DDPs back. Sitout powerbomb by DDP. They fight on the ramp as Bischoff appears. Jarrett rips pages out of DDPs book, what a heel. DDP starts a comeback until Jarrett stops a Diamond Cutter by holding the ropes a belt shot gets 2. Diamond Cutter to Jeff but pointless WCW swerve time as Kim hits DDP with a guitar and Jarrett hits The Stroke for 3. ** 1/2 Was okay but yet another turn and swerve by WCW. I didn't take Jarrett seriouly as Champion of a big company, small fish big pond and all that. DDP would win the title 8 days later in a cage on Nitro.

20 / 70 - Wowzers that's bad but 14 matches were on the card and seemingly only 3 went over 5 minutes so due to that the ratings weren't going to be high. Angle wise a lot happened as most matches had swerves etc. that doesn't make them entertaining though. New Blood wins all gold bar Hardcore title so that's a group involving Bischoff dominating the company .... hm that sounds familiar. Also the clean to swerve finish ratio ended up 2-12.

Souled Out 1999

January 17th, Charleston, West Virginia.

- Wasn't watching WCW at the time so i'll rummage round the internet to find out why people were feuding, also i'm watching it off YouTube and the library computers have no sound so I can't hear it. The card is bad and there's no WCW Title match. Hogan, Nash, Sting, Giant, Bret Hart aren't here neither is Eddy Guerrero as he'd been involved in a serious car accident.

Ric Flair does a presedential style address.

Mike Enos Vs. Chris Benoit
- who? I expect an Enos win as this is WCW.
They lock up and spin around the ring. Corner beatdown by Enos who then fails to apply a headlock twice. Enos poses in the corner so Benoit chops him, Wooo. Dragon whip by the Crippler who goes for a crossface but Enos tilt-a-whirl backbreakers him. Powerslam gets Enos 2 as does a suplex. Germans by Benoit and diving headbutt connects. Worlds slowest clothesline by Enos but he soon taps to the Crossface. ** Enos offence was basic, at least the right man won.

Video promo for Goldberg Vs. Hall.

Norman Smiley Vs. Chavo Guerero
- Chavos horse Pepe was burnt up by Norman Smiley.
Chavo beats on Norman until he bails so Chavo hits a pescado. Norm starts dancing then stops, he must be heel oh wait he killed Pepe of course he is. Vaderbomb by Chavo but Smiley gets his knees up to block it. Norman now locks in a fnky submission, I am liking this match. They counter submissions on the mat. Superplex by Norman who then proceeds to flapjack Chavo about 15 feet in the air. Chavo starts to mount a comeback but misses a corner charge, they trade counters until Norman blocks a tornado DDT by throwing Chavo off, then throws Pepes remains in Chavos face, they were in an urn that Norman had also DQ anyone?, a chickenwing finishes Chavo off. ***1/2 Pleasently surprised, a damn fine match but shouldn't Norman have been DQd towards the end?

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. Wrath
Punches are traded, brogue kick by Wrath, a top rope clothesline/forearm gets Wrath 2. Scoopslam followed by headbutt gets Bam Bam 2. Dropkick, shoulder charge Wrath is on a roll, and as I wrote that he got powerslammed by Bam Bam. Triple-B wins via Greetings From Asbury Park, WWF fans will know it as Rikishi Driver. *1/2 Pretty boring. Not much beyond punch, punch, kick. My WCW timeline is sketchy at best so i'm not sure if Bam Bam was in Jersey Triade yet.

Konnan Vs. Luger
- I think Luger is nWo here as i'm sure he appeared during the fingerpoke of doom debacle.
Lex enters wearing a nWo vest so my Columbo method was right. Lex cuts a promo on Konnan pre-match, I can't hear it so i'll have a guess at it 'you think you can beat me cue-ball, well i'm nWo sucka so i've got the backstage clout needed to win this match, hombre' Konnan slaps Luger and beats on him, crowd looks pumped for K-Dawg. K-diggity is in control so Lex bails to ringside. Konnan misses a dropkick so Lex gets some offence in which is kicks and slaps, punches to the back by Luger sets up a .... bear hug, good god. K-meister lies at ringside for a while, so much so that I think he's having a nap or Lugers offence put him to sleep. Rolling clothesline by Konnan then Tequila Sunrise, a boston crab more or less, but Miss Elizabeth comes ringside and sprays him in the eyes so Lex then gets the win via Torture Rack. ** Lugers offence was boring but the crowd from what I saw liked Konnan.

Perry Saturn Vs. Chris Jericho (w/ Ralphus)
Loser has to wear a dress. Saturn gets the better of Jericho to start. Nothing of note happens it's punch, kick etc. leg drop gets Saturn 2. Jericho hits the springboard dropkick which sends Saturn off the apron into the guardrail followed by a front suplex on the outside. Delayed suplex only gets Jericho 2 as he does a cocky pin. Nice suplex by Saturn who proceeds to slingshot Jericho over the top. Splash gets Saturn 2 and Jericho gets his own 2 off a bridged german. They do er, something off the top then Saturn gets a small package but the ref turns it so Saturns shoulders are down and fast counts 3. That mr. Patrick is how you fast count. Saturn puts the dress on as Jericho, Raplhus and ref laugh, not sure what was worse wearing the dress or in WWF when he dated a mop. ** Was okay, not very memorable.

Cruiserweight Title - Billy Kidman (c) Vs. Rey Mysterio jr. Vs. Juventud Guerrera Vs. Psicosis
- This is Reys last WCW PPV with a mask on as he was unmasked at Februarys Superbrawl.
Only two men in at a time. Rey and Kidman shake hands. Headscissors by Rey then Kidman answers back with his own. They both run the ropes and crossbody each other. Psicosis and Juvi in now and they seemingly botch something and cover it by doing counters. Billy, Rey team up, you know WCW should've signed Cyrus from ECW cause put the three together you have Billy Rey Cyrus, BK bomb to Juvi. Kidman is hurricanranaed(?) by Juvi and Psicosis clotheslines him out they then throw Rey over onto him. Psicosis and Juvi argue on the apron so Rey and Kidman powerbomb them both. Cool spot where Rey is lay down on the apron and monkeyflips Psicosis over the turnbuckle. Juvi Driver almost gets 3 but Psicosis breaks the count. Juvi lays Kidman, Rey out at ringside and Psicosis sentons over onto them. Juvi flips out of a german and tries for a Juvi Driver to Kidman but is reverse DDTd, Rey springboard hurricanranas Psicosis as Kidman Shooting Star Presses Juvi for 3. ***1/2  I dont usually like spot fests, all style no substance and all but this was enjoyable. I liked Reys monkey flip to Psicosis.

Booker-T is being interviewed when Jericho interupts.

Barry Windham/Curt Henning Vs. Ric/David Flair (w/ Arn Anderson)
David Flair being in a match means we're in suck territory from the get go. David goes for a takedown which pisses Barry off, Barry calls for a test of strength then kicks David. Ric's in chops to Barry and cheap shot to Henning. Barry eyerakes Ric so Henning comes in and takes control with chops and slaps. Flair does his turnbuckle flip but to the outside where Barry beats on him. Superplex to Naitch. Ric is being beaten on surely not for a hot tag to David, figure four by Curt, Yee-Haw!! Anderson beats on Henning, as Ric figure fours Barry, Woooo. Henning goes for a perfectplex but AA hits him so Curt pulls David down onto him and David gets 3. Post Match - nWo lackeys beat up Flairs, they are that crap that Vincent is the main one, then nWo proper comes down, Hogan etc. and beat on Flair some more, this lasts about 30 minutes. ** Was gonna go *1/2 but I bumped it up as Ric being in there mostly, makes sense. The match was punch, chop, punch though mainly.

Recap of Goldberg being attacked after Finger Poke Of Doom

Ladder Match with a Taser above the ring - Goldberg Vs. Scott Hall
- At Starrcade 1998 Hall tasered Goldberg costing him his title and streak.
Hall gets some shoulderbarges in but is then clotheslined, he goes for a scoop slam but instead Goldberg scoop slams him. Hall makes sense for once and targets Goldbergs knee then he goes ringside for a ladder. Goldberg falls over a ladder to add suspense or if he really didn't see it i'm not sure. Hall in control and heads up top and drops an elbow to Goldberg, why not grab the taser? Hall up a ladder again but is bsck suplexed off. Hall attacks the knee again, psychology. Now Goldberg uses the ladder to beat on Hall, he heads up it but gets dropkicked off. Hall goes up the ladder as Goldberg limps around the ring, yet Hall didn't pull down the taser which makes him look stupid....er. Disco Inferno pushes Goldberg off a ladder and he hits his head on the top rope, almost whiplash-esque that must've hurt. Hall grabs the taser but Goldberg dodges it and soon has it himself at ringside after he kicks Hall down. Disco gets tasered. Goldberg throws it up in the air and as Hall goes to grab it he Spears him, Jack....hammer time and then Hall gets tasered and Goldberg wins. ** Was okay, i'm glad Goldberg sold the knee and didn't just forget about it. Post Match - Bam Bam runs in and attacks Goldberg but Scott Hall tasers them both.

19.5 / 40 - Good PPV, not great but good especially for 1999 WCW. No Hogan, Nash etc. may of hurt the star power of the PPV but it helped the in ring aspect of the PPV. Norman Smiley/Chavo was very surprising, crusierweight match was good. More good than bad here folks.
